Community of Practice: getting started with your biodiversity strategy

  • Datum: Thursday 22 May 2025 t/m Thursday 15 January 2026
  • Locatie: Changing locations

This event has started

Do you really want to embed biodiversity in your organisation, but are not yet sure how? Without a clear approach, impact often fails to materialise, while the potential is huge. In 2025, MVO Nederland organises a Community of Practice, where, together with companies and experts, you develop and implement an effective biodiversity strategy within your organisation.

Biodiversity, the basis for sustainability

Biodiversity is all about the dependency between trees, plants, animals, fungi, insects and humans. If too many species disappear, this system falls apart. A sustainable economy without biodiversity cannot exist.

So biodiversity is really important for the continuity of our businesses; you can also see this reflected international standards & regulations such as CSRD, CSDD, TNFD and the growing attention of financial institutions.

Companies should therefore minimise their impact on nature and integrate nature into their policies. But how do you go about this? Where do you start, and how do you ensure that your efforts make a real impact, despite complex rules and conflicting interests?

Working together with peers and experts

In this programme, companies and experts will share their knowledge, insights and experiences. Together, you will arrive at a strategy that works for your company.

We are developing this Community of Practice in line with the It's Now for Nature Accelerator Programme of Business for Nature ¹. Of course, this programme is in line with international standards such as TNFD, CSRD ed.

¹ Business for Nature is a global coalition, backed by organisations such as the World Economic Forum and the UN, that unites businesses in the fight against biodiversity loss and influences international policies.

Two CoPs in one programme

This programme offers two Communities of Practice (CoPs). Choose whether you want to participate in one or both. CoP I forms the basis, CoP II offers additional depth. Registration is separate, so you can also follow only CoP I. You can choose CoP II now or later. View both CoPs here 👇

CoP I: developing knowledge

You focus on the basics of biodiversity and nature. You explore how they affect your organisation and what steps are needed for a strategy. Expect to include:

  • an introduction to biodiversity & nature

  • insight into regulations and methods

  • more on ecosystem and maturity assessments

  • a clear picture of the benefits (and risks)

  • insights from the 'It's Now for Nature Guidebook'

Practical information

CoP I begins on Thursday 30 January 2025 and ends on Wednesday 6 March 2026. The venue and times will be announced soon.

Costs are different for partners and non-partners:

  • partner MVO Nederland: €995 (for 1 or 2 participants)

  • Not a partner? Be a partner and get instant access to these reduced rates. Not interested in partnership? Then the cost is €2,495 (limited availability)

Download the brochure for more information.

Please note that this CoP has already started and therefore registration is no longer possible. You can still sign up for CoP II.

"Community of Practice I participated in brought me a lot of knowledge and inspiration, and was well facilitated from CSR NL."

Who is this interesting for?

This programme is open to organisations with more than 100 employees and targets both partners of CSR Netherlands and interested non-partners.

Most importantly, you want to learn about or work on biodiversity within your organisation. For example, the theme is relevant for companies from the built environment, retail and agrifood sectors, but organisations from other sectors are of course also very welcome. In short, the theme is relevant to any business.

The programme offers particular value for sustainability managers, business ecologists, buyers, strategists and risk managers, while other professionals are also welcome.

Kennispartners

For this Community of Practice, we collaborate with knowledge partners Accenture, Grant Thornton, Naturalis and BNP Paribas, among others.

Wat is een Community of Practice?

A Community of Practice brings companies together to learn and help each other around a particular topic. This is ideal: you learn from others, get guidance from experts and find immediately applicable solutions. This way, you make the step from planning to action simple and effective.

500+ companies went before you

More than 500 companies have already participated in our Community of Practices on topics such as CSRD, carbon pricing, Science Based Targets, due diligence and circularity. Participants give us an average of 8.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this programme for?

This programme is open to organisations with more than 100 employees and targets both partners and interested non-partners who want to learn about or work on biodiversity within their organisation. For example, the theme is relevant to companies from the built environment, retail and agrifood sectors, but organisations from other sectors are of course also welcome. The programme offers particular value to sustainability managers, business ecologists, buyers, strategists and risk managers, while anyone wishing to contribute is also welcome.

The programme has two parts, should I go through both parts?

This programme is designed for companies at different levels of their sustainability journey. Part I provides a solid foundation for organisations just starting out with biodiversity, while Part II focuses on deeper knowledge and advanced applications. We strongly recommend going through both parts, as the final session of Part I serves as valuable preparation for Part II.

When will the venues and times be announced?

We will announce this on very short terms.

What is the working language of this programme?

The main language of the programme is entirely in Dutch, some slides will be in English.

How many participants can join with one ticket?

The participation fee is for one or two participants. So it is an option to come with two participants, but you can also always participate as the only one. It is also possible to join with more than two employees. For this, please contact us to discuss the possibilities and conditions.

What does biodiversity mean?

Trees, plants, animals, fungi and insects and humans depend on each other. We call this interdependence biodiversity. If too many species disappear, this house of cards collapses. There is no such thing as a new, sustainable economy without biodiversity. For companies, this now means minimising the damage you cause to nature through your activities - at home and abroad. AND that you integrate nature into your business operations and policy choices. Read more about biodiversity here.
